Under the Tuscan Sun!

We didn’t get to sleep in today!  We said goodbye to Siena and departed at 8:00!  We drove once again through spectacular scenery and wound our way up, up, up, to Cortona, another beautiful Etruscan village.  The bus took us up higher to St. Margaret’s Church, where this Saint is actually entombed in a visible casket in the church.

We started our walk from the church and walked down, into the town of Cortona. This pretty little town was made famous in the movie, “Under the Tuscan Sun”.  We had an hour to check it out and some of us came back with more bags to carry! 🤷‍♀️

From Cortona we travelled to Lake Trasimeno where we had a picnic.  Everyone brought some food or wine to contribute and it was wonderful!  We relaxed in the sunshine and ate our lunch and sampled Sambucca. We also did another “blue sock” photo shoot!!

Then we travelled for another hour, through more breathtaking countryside, to another town up on the hill, Montepulciano.  This time we had to walk up into the town, but it wasn’t too strenuous!  We wound our way up the narrow streets and took some time to check out the shops (again) or grab a drink in a cafe.

In many of these Italian hill towns we have seen so many cyclists!  This is obviously a very popular place to cycle but it is far too difficult for me….it is VERY hilly!

Next we drove to Pienza, about 20 minutes away, where we will spend two nights. We are staying at a lovely little hotel and it is only a 5 minute walk to the main square. There are two hot tubs on the patio that some people took advantage of. We were on our own for dinner so everyone ventured out throughout the evening.  It is a must quieter town than Sienna, very quaint.

Buona Notte! 😴
