We Made It to Italy!
Ciao! We began our journey at the Saskatoon airport at 11:00 am on September 11. Thirteen of us travelled together from Saskatoon and flew to Montreal. Six more people flew from Alberta and joined us in Montreal. Four travellers departed earlier and will be waiting for is in Rapallo.
Our flight out of Saskatoon departed 30 minutes late due to weights and balance issues with the luggage. This likely explains why five of our bags never left Saskatoon! 🤬
We had enough time in Montreal to grab a bite to eat and then our flight was delayed by 1.5 hours. We arrived in Milan at noon on September 12. That was when we discovered that 5 of the bags were missing. It was a slow process to make our claim at lost and found. Two hours later we regrouped and met up with our Tour Director, Laura. We took a few minutes to grab a sandwich and a drink and headed for the bus.
We travelled from Milan to Rapallo, located on the coast. We drove through the poplain, a fertile agricultural area where they grow rice and wheat. Then we entered the mountainous area and we marveled at our bus driver’s skill as he maneuvered on the narrow, twisting roads. Our drive through Genoa began to give us glimpses of the beautiful sea to the south of us.
We arrived in the lovely seaside town of Rapallo at 5:30 and again marvelled as our bus driver had to back the bus up a narrow street and into a tight parking space. The Hotel Canali is a quaint hotel situated just up the hill from the downtown. We had an hour to freshen up before we regrouped to go for dinner.
We walked to dinner via a lovely villa garden and arrived at our restaurant where our tables were set up beside the water, overlooking the tiny castle of Rapallo. We were treated to a delicious array of Italian appetizers followed by scrumptious ravioli and a lovely fruit tart for dessert. Of course, this was all topped of with fine Italian wines. What a fantastic start to our trip!
After dinner we walked back to the hotel, anxious to get caught up with our rest and ready for a whole new day!
Stay tuned…….
